David Alexander is the founder of independent London-based sports PR agency Calacus, which “helps organisations and individuals to tell their stories across the world”.
Before setting up Calacus in 2008, David had worked in the media since the early 1990s, writing for the BBC, local and national newspapers, various magazines and the Reuters news agency in Italy.
“I set up Calacus because I wanted to focus on sport, having been a freelance sports journalist. But I wanted to leave the world of big agencies behind and set up my own specialist boutique sports PR agency,” he explains.
“We provide PR consultancy for various clients working in sport, health and fitness. That involves everything from deciding their internal and external communications strategies, media training and crisis communications to event management and campaigning. Mostly, we work for national and international sports governing bodies, clubs, athletes, charities and events.”

The Calacus launch website was updated a few years later. “Then I created a new website, but got a Squarespace specialist developer in to redesign it,” David adds. “That became dated and stale, and I came across Manage My Website and [its founder] Allie Astell when searching for a new Squarespace expert.
“Initially, I just wanted a few niggles fixing, and Allie was very helpful. But it soon became clear that we needed to completely redesign the site to improve SEO and the visitor experience.
