London-based Oliver Daminar has the enviable reputation of being the “go-to hair straightening and smoothing expert”.


He is Europe’s leading Brazilian Blow Dry and Yuko Hair Straightening Specialist (both are frizz-reducing treatments that leave hair looking and feeling smoother). With more than a quarter of a century of experience, Oliver’s long list of loyal clients include celebrities and royalty.

“I started my career in 1996, where I trained for a year at the Vidal Sassoon Hairdressing Academy in London,” he remembers. “Then, for three years, I worked for Japanese company, Yuko; I trained in the art of Japanese thermal hair straightening and became their Technical Global Educator for the United States and Europe. I taught stylists and salon owners the Yuko Straightening System technical process.”

Straight choice

Oliver was then headhunted by spa operator Urban Retreat, which was then based at the world-famous Harrods department store in Knightsbridge. “It became my second home for 19 years,” he laughs. “I was their Yuko Hair Straightening and Brazilian Blow Dry specialist. I’ve lost count of the hair straightening treatments that I’ve done throughout my 27-year career,” he smiles.

In 2018, Oliver decided to step out on his own, setting up as a full-time freelancer. “After all those years spent in salons working as an employee, I really enjoyed having more freedom. I was also able to offer my clients more convenience and better value for money,” Oliver explains. On select days of the week and by appointment only, he works at a salon in Chelsea.
